The City of Launceston Council has approved the $130 million redevelopment of the University of Tasmania (UTAS) stadium, marking a key milestone in creating a premier sports and events hub for Northern Tasmania. Jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, this project aims to enhance facilities for athletes and spectators while stimulating local tourism and economic growth. Key upgrades include improved seating options, contemporary player amenities, corporate hospitality facilities, and enhanced media and broadcasting capabilities. The redevelopment also prioritizes sustainability, with plans to reuse timber from a recently removed Dutch elm tree and the planting of new greenery. The phased construction is set to commence shortly, with completion expected by early 2027.
