The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced that over 250 subway stations have successfully transitioned to brighter and more energy-efficient LED lighting, achieving this milestone ahead of schedule. This initiative is part of a broader plan to replace more than 150,000 fluorescent fixtures by mid-2026, resulting in an anticipated annual savings of $5.9 million in energy and material costs. The installation of LED lights not only enhances station security by improving visibility for approximately 15,000 security cameras but also increases safety for passengers. In addition to subway stations, the MTA has converted 77% of its subway cars to LED lighting, with total projected savings expected to reach nearly $5 million this year alone. These efforts are part of the MTA’s Revive Program, which includes various upgrades and enhancements throughout the subway system.
