Researchers found that participants felt 31.6% safer under white light compared to amber light, and 81.7% safer at higher illuminance levels (5.0 lux) compared to lower levels (0.5 lux). The study suggests a balance can be achieved to meet both human safety and wildlife needs, with recommendations for implementing amber lighting and retrofitting existing infrastructure to only light necessary areas. The findings emphasize the importance of considering both functional and psychological aspects of visitor experience in national parks.
