The Dark Skies Fringe Festival, running from October 25 to November 3, offers visitors a chance to enjoy Dalby Forest’s newly enhanced stargazing experience, thanks to recent efforts to reduce light pollution within North York Moors National Park. This initiative involved replacing existing external lights with over 60 dark skies-friendly fixtures to minimize glare and protect local wildlife. Activities during the festival feature stargazing evenings hosted by Astro Dog, alongside new creative events like a dark skies sound walk and a printmaking session. This project, part of the National Park’s commitment to fostering dark sky-friendly communities, highlights the ongoing collaboration between Forestry England and the National Park to combat light pollution. As the festival approaches its 10th anniversary, it underscores the growing awareness of light pollution’s impact on nature and the importance of preserving dark skies for future generations.
