A recent study titled “Continuous LED Lighting Enhances Yield and Nutritional Value of Four Genotypes of Brassicaceae Microgreens” highlights the benefits of using LED grow lights for cultivating microgreens such as arugula, broccoli, mizuna, and radish. The research indicates that a 24-hour photoperiod significantly boosts both yield and nutritional value, with LED technology providing precise control over light conditions that foster growth and the synthesis of beneficial compounds. Key findings reveal that while continuous lighting enhances overall growth and accelerates leaf emergence, it also leads to an increase in antioxidants and phytochemicals—despite some reduction in chlorophyll levels for certain greens. The study suggests that optimizing light spectrum and intensity, particularly at a PAR level of 450 µmol/m²/s, could enhance the economic and health benefits of microgreens, making these insights vital as demand for such produce rises.
