KAIST has unveiled a groundbreaking flexible LED mask designed to enhance skin rejuvenation by significantly improving light penetration. Traditional LED masks often leave up to 90% of light reflecting away due to their rigid designs, limiting their effectiveness for deeper skin stimulation. In contrast, the new face-conforming surface lighting micro-LED (FSLED) mask features a 3D origami design with 3,770 micro-LEDs and a flexible light-diffusion layer, allowing it to snugly fit the contours of the face. Clinical trials with 33 participants demonstrated a remarkable 340% increase in deep skin elasticity, effectively reducing wrinkles and signs of aging. According to Professor Keon Jae Lee, this innovative mask enables safe, at-home anti-aging treatments without the risk of burns. The mask is set to be launched globally through Amorepacific’s distribution network starting in November, manufactured by KAIST startup Fronics.
