City Transitions to LED Street Lighting, Achieving 50% Reduction in Power Costs

At a recent state-level hackathon focused on sustainable solutions for urban infrastructure, Deepak A E, Executive Engineer of Mysuru City Corporation, highlighted the significant cost savings achieved through sustainable practices in city operations, notably a reduction of electricity expenses from Rs 50 crore to Rs 25 crore after transitioning to LED street lighting. He encouraged participants to explore similar innovations in municipal services, stating that such approaches could enhance service delivery while minimizing costs. The event, hosted by Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering, aimed to foster collaboration among students to develop projects promoting sustainability and energy efficiency. Principal B Sadashivegowda emphasized the educational value of hackathons, asserting that they drive rapid learning and innovation, preparing students to tackle real-world challenges. Both leaders reiterated the importance of sustainability in shaping a better future for Mysuru, calling for active engagement in devising solutions for urban challenges.
