Amagansett’s Downtown Set to Shine Brighter

The East Hampton Town Board has received a preliminary study for a new lighting plan aimed at enhancing safety and aesthetic appeal along downtown Amagansett’s Main Street, which is currently obstructed by large trees that block existing streetlights. Presented by Matt Jedlicka of L.K. McLean Associates, the proposal involves installing approximately 50 historical-style LED fixtures, standing 12 feet tall and spaced 100 feet apart, over a distance of about four-tenths of a mile. The project, estimated to cost around $1.3 million, aims to preserve the area’s historical character while adhering to dark-sky standards. Despite some concerns raised by local observers regarding compliance and lighting efficiency, many community members expressed eagerness for the project’s long-overdue progression, emphasizing the importance of improved safety and overall ambiance in the area. The proposed timeline suggests that design work would continue in the coming months, with construction projected to begin in the fall.
