Onyx Motorbikes Makes a Comeback One Year After Owner’s Passing Left Company in Disarray

A year after the sudden death of Onyx Motorbikes owner James Khatiblou, the electric dirt bike brand has been revived by its original founder, Tim Seward. In a LinkedIn post, Seward announced the return of Onyx, stating he has secured “incredible backers.” The company plans to sell approximately 100 RCR electric dirt bikes, though it’s unclear if these are newly manufactured units or leftover stock from earlier production. Khatiblou’s death left customers with unfulfilled orders and the company facing significant debts, including a claim of $2.2 million from creditor Oxygen Funding. Seward’s previous involvement in the company saw the successful launch of the RCR, which gained a dedicated following for its distinctive design and performance. However, the current situation surrounding the revival raises questions about the unresolved financial and legal issues stemming from Khatiblou’s lack of a succession plan, as well as the potential involvement of other stakeholders in Onyx’s restructuring.
