A German court has ordered Signify, the leading global lighting manufacturer, to recall and destroy certain products sold since 2017 due to patent infringement claims from South Korea’s Seoul Semiconductor. The Düsseldorf court’s ruling also imposes potential fines of up to €250,000 ($259,925) for each instance of non-compliance. Signify, which was spun off from Philips in 2016, has yet to comment on the decision, adding to its existing challenges in the competitive lighting market. Meanwhile, Seoul Semiconductor, a prominent player in LED technology with a portfolio of over 18,000 patents, actively invests around 10% of its revenue into research and development to safeguard its intellectual property.
