Art Show Highlights the Splendor of Maine’s Night Sky

Arlene Jurewicz-Leighton, a science educator and artist, is highlighting the beauty of Maine’s night skies through her photography and a collaborative exhibition titled “Dark Skies: Artwork honoring dark skies in Maine,” on view at Waterfall Arts in Belfast until February 28. The show, featuring over 30 artists, is designed to celebrate the ecosystem thriving under the cover of darkness and raise awareness about light pollution. It includes a variety of events such as lantern-making workshops and film screenings, fostering community engagement with the night sky. Nancy Hathaway, co-founder of Dark Sky Maine, emphasizes the importance of appreciating and preserving clear skies for future generations and encourages conversations about reducing light pollution. The exhibition aims to inspire awe and educate attendees, reminding them of the significance of maintaining Maine’s night sky heritage.
