The Saranac Lake Central School District’s Board of Education is poised to vote on the selection of an artificial turf product for the high school’s field renovations at a meeting scheduled for tomorrow. Following a narrow voter approval of the turf project last May, community members have questioned which turf product will be chosen, with particular concern regarding the presence of PFAS “forever chemicals.” District Superintendent Diane Fox has expressed confidence in the proposed “Vertex Prime” product from FieldTurf USA, claiming it is PFAS-free and adheres to state environmental standards. Discussions will also involve the choice of infill materials and enhancements, with a focus on environmental safety. The overall project aims to complete the field by fall 2025 and will be financed without raising local taxes using funds from the district’s Capital Reserve Fund.
