The Odem Economic Development Corporation and the Odem City Council have approved funding of up to $190,000 for the repair of lighting at the Little League Park, specifically at the Jessie Rodriguez Sr. sports Complex. Vice-President of the Economic Development Corporation, Ruben Gonzales, highlighted the importance of the new LED lights, which will enhance safety and allow for night games, potentially attracting out-of-town teams for tournaments. The existing safety issues led to the removal of old light poles, and renovations will include upgrades to current infrastructure. City Administrator Sal Hernandez indicated that the project budget is expected to be under $190,000, with costs estimated at around $175,000, requiring a small payment plan over five years. Although there is some uncertainty about the project’s completion in time for upcoming sports seasons, preparation is underway, with a public hearing scheduled for Saturday to further discuss the initiative before a required 60-day waiting period for fund allocation.
