In a groundbreaking initiative, the Astra Tower in Salt Lake City, Utah’s tallest skyscraper, will soon serve as a real-time air quality indicator, marking a first in the United States. Set to launch on February 20, the tower will utilize LED lights to display air quality forecasts, changing colors to reflect conditions—from orange for unhealthy air for sensitive groups to red, purple, and maroon for hazardous levels. This innovative approach, developed in partnership with the Utah Clean Air Partnership (UCAIR), aims to raise awareness about air quality and encourage community action to improve it. By visually communicating the status of air quality, officials hope to foster greater public engagement in preserving Utah’s environment.
