Sports Ministry Racing Against Deadline to Upgrade Major Sporting Venues

Minister of sports Olivia Grange is facing a time crunch in deciding on funding for the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) regarding the much-needed upgrade of lights at Sabina Park and the resurfacing of the National stadium track ahead of the ISSA Boys and Girls Athletics Championships next month. During the launch of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League, Grange emphasized the importance of both projects. Cricket West Indies (CWI) had planned to host day-night matches at Sabina Park, contingent on the lighting meeting international standards, but recently announced that an upcoming match from March 5-8 will now be held during the day due to safety concerns over the current lighting conditions. Meanwhile, the Grand Slam Track season is set to kick off in Kingston on April 4, intensifying the need for timely decisions on these critical upgrades.
