Dickson City is set to enhance its public lighting as the borough council has approved a resolution for PPL to convert all streetlights to energy-efficient LED lights this spring, a project that will incur no costs for the borough. This upgrade will replace the current high-pressure sodium lights with brighter, cleaner lighting, resulting in anticipated monthly savings of about $450 on electricity costs. PPL aims to start the project within five to six weeks, completing it by the end of May. The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts in nearby municipalities and complements Dickson City’s larger Main Street revitalization project, which already features LED lights. Borough officials consider this conversion a win-win, promising better lighting, reduced maintenance needs, and environmental benefits while maintaining PPL as the lighting provider.
