Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority Discusses Night Sky Preservation

On February 20, the Good Practice Guidance on Planning for the Conservation and Enhancement of Dark Skies was launched, providing Wales with a national framework aimed at mitigating light pollution while promoting well-being and biodiversity. In light of increasing light pollution threatening the region’s natural beauty and its status as a premier stargazing destination—particularly in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park—the guidance encourages responsible lighting practices. Gayle Lister, principal planning officer at the National Park Authority, emphasized that reducing light pollution is a simple and cost-effective method to foster positive community impacts. The authority plans to disseminate insights from this guidance to help communities, businesses, and developers make informed lighting choices, ultimately preserving wildlife, enhancing human health, and maintaining Pembrokeshire’s renowned dark skies.
