Collaboration Between Bandung Regency and BRIN Aims to Enhance Astrotourism

The Department of Culture and Tourism of Bandung Regency recently visited researchers at the Samaun Samadikun Science and Technology Area of the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN) to explore the potential of astrotourism in the region. Head of the department, Muhamad Sofiyurahman, emphasized the need to enhance tourism both day and night while preserving the environment. The initiative aims to promote sustainable tourism by minimizing light pollution, with hopes of developing dark sky parks that allow visitors to appreciate the night sky, including capturing stunning images of the Milky Way. BRIN’s principal researchers support this vision, indicating that collaboration with local communities and governments is essential for the success of astrotourism in Bandung. An upcoming event in August will celebrate Space Day with activities focused on stargazing and light pollution awareness.
