Pendle Council has successfully secured £2.6 million in funding to enhance the energy efficiency of the West Craven sports Centre in Barnoldswick. The financial boost includes £1.7 million from a public sector decarbonisation programme aimed at installing renewable energy systems in leisure facilities, alongside a £900,000 contribution from the council’s capital programme. The investment will facilitate the installation of air source heat pumps and new glazing, promoting both environmental sustainability and financial responsibility. Council leader Cllr David Whipp highlighted that this funding follows prior investments aimed at reviving local sports centres long neglected by previous administrations. The council’s focus on improving leisure facilities comes in response to rising membership at local gyms and swimming pools, revitalizing the community’s access to recreational activities.
