On Tuesday, Campbell County commissioners convened to discuss a proposal for upgrading the ball field lights at Bicentennial Park, which was met with skepticism. Kevin Geer and Bill Beastrom requested $500,000 to replace aging halogen lights with LED fixtures from Musco sports Lighting LLC, enhancing operational capabilities through remote control systems. Despite highlighting the improved efficiency and monitoring features of the new lights, commissioners, particularly Jim Ford, questioned the need for a California-based company to manage local light operations, advocating for simpler controls. Ultimately, the motion for the upgrades was voted down amid concerns over reallocating funds from a crucial drainage project, indicating the need for a more comprehensive upgrade plan for the park. In addition, the commissioners approved a $13,677.18 budget for purchasing a DJI drone for the Sheriff’s office and granted a $17,944 bid for HVAC system replacements in the sheriff’s office, emphasizing support for local businesses in these projects.
