The Goodyear City Council will convene at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 24, to discuss a resolution aimed at applying for funding through the Arizona sports and Tourism Authority’s biennial grant program. The proposed grant would finance the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting at the ballfields in Goodyear Community Park, which attracts over 280,000 visitors each year. If approved, the resolution would empower the city manager to submit the grant application and manage related budget adjustments, with the Goodyear Parks and Recreation Department covering a match of up to $125,000 from its fiscal year 2026 budget. The grant program, which has allocated around $32 million since 2000 to support youth and amateur sports in Maricopa County, would fund two-thirds of the total project cost, capped at $250,000. Upgrading to LED lighting aims to enhance the playing experience while promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
