In a recent discussion with WLVR’s Brad Klein, Marty McGuire, popularly known as Bethlehem’s “Backyard Astronomy Guy,” highlighted the critical obstacle for stargazers: finding truly dark skies, free from urban light pollution. McGuire recommends escaping the brightness of the Lehigh Valley by journeying to Cherry Springs State Park in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, located about two hours north of State College. This park is renowned for its exceptionally dark skies, allowing visitors to witness stunning celestial displays, including the faint and cloudy Milky Way—a sight that has become increasingly rare due to artificial lighting.
