The city of Kortrijk is set to enhance its parking garages—Veemarkt, Schouwburg, and Parking K—by upgrading to LED lighting by April 16, 2025, which is expected to generate substantial financial and environmental benefits. With an investment of €224,000, this initiative is projected to save the city approximately €300,000 over the lighting system’s lifespan, translating to annual savings of €34,000. The new LED lights will not only last five times longer than current fixtures but will also improve safety through better visibility, supporting Kortrijk’s commitment to sustainable urban development. This move serves as a model for eco-friendly practices that could inspire similar projects across Belgium.
