As part of International Dark Sky Week from April 21-28, Minnesota’s Voyageurs National Park and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) invite nature enthusiasts to experience some of the darkest skies in the state, both known for their stunning views and preservation efforts against light pollution. Designated as dark sky sanctuaries, these areas encourage public awareness about the dangers of excessive artificial light and promote stewardship of nocturnal environments. Celebratory events include telescope viewings and educational sessions led by experts, as well as opportunities to witness the breathtaking aurora borealis, which is expected to peak in visibility through mid-2025. Visitors are encouraged to plan their dark sky adventures with tips for optimal viewing conditions, enhancing their connection to the cosmos during this week and beyond.
