Ipswich Council Opposes Proposed Lighting for Northgate Track

Suffolk County Council has submitted plans to upgrade the lighting at Northgate High School’s track by replacing failing bulbs with LED fixtures, while retaining the existing light columns. However, Ipswich Borough Council has objected to the plans due to concerns about the potential impact on a nearby wildlife corridor. Concertus, the developers, argue that the new lighting is necessary to keep the facility accessible year-round, as the current setup limits usage to daylight hours during school term. They assert that the lighting design minimizes additional impacts on local amenities and wildlife. Two local residents have also expressed objections, but Suffolk County Council’s public health body has raised no concerns.
