Keswick, a rural town in the Lake District, is set to host “The Big Switch Off,” a Dark Skies event aimed at highlighting the natural beauty of the night sky. Scheduled from 21:30 BST to midnight at Crow Park, the initiative will involve turning off approximately 70 streetlamps along Lake Road, Hope Park, and surrounding areas to enhance star visibility. Organized by the Friends of the Lake District, the event invites the community to participate by bringing binoculars and telescopes to learn from expert astronomers. Cumberland Council is also encouraging local residents and businesses to switch off their lights to fully enjoy the stargazing experience. This collaborative effort includes support from The National Trust, Keswick Town Council, and other local organizations.
