Apple’s research team has unveiled a prototype robotic lamp named ELEGNT, showcasing its potential direction in home robotics. The lamp, equipped with an LED, camera, speaker, and projector, not only responds to voice commands but also engages users with human-like behaviors, such as dancing and tracking movements for optimal lighting. A recently published research paper highlights that expressive movements in robots enhance user engagement compared to traditional functional devices. This development hints at Apple’s plans for a more sophisticated home robot, set to launch between 2026 and 2027 for approximately $1,000. Led by Kevin Lynch, Apple’s VP of technology, this upcoming device is expected to feature an iPad-like display on a 360-degree rotating arm and will run a modified version of iPadOS, emphasizing user interaction and functionality.
