Cumberland Council’s planning committee has approved the removal of existing wall-mounted street lighting from listed buildings on Devonshire Street, paving the way for the installation of new architectural lighting. The decision, made during a meeting on February 19, comes after an application from Eric Wright Civil Engineering as part of a larger council project. Councillor Andrew Semple emphasized that this change represents the final phase of significant improvements in the area, which features mostly Grade-II listed buildings dating back to the mid-1800s. The unanimous vote will see six old LED lights replaced with new lighting bars designed to enhance the architectural features of the upper floors.
