Blaine County, Idaho, stands out as a beacon of natural beauty amid increasing light pollution, being home to the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve—one of only 12 such reserves worldwide. As the holiday season approaches, the county has implemented specific regulations for outdoor lighting to preserve its idyllic night sky. From November 15 to February 1, residents are permitted to display holiday lighting under strict guidelines, which include using downcast, shielded lights, minimizing illumination to adjacent properties, and adhering to a color temperature limit of three thousand Kelvin. Additionally, all holiday lights must be turned off by 11:00 p.m. Violations of these regulations include the use of flashing or high-intensity lighting, which is prohibited. For more details, residents can contact the Blaine County Land Use & Building Services office.
