A new street lighting initiative has been implemented, allowing council staff to control the brightness and monitor faults remotely. The upgraded lights are projected to significantly cut carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 6,000 tonnes annually. However, opinions among residents are mixed, with some expressing concerns that the lights are either too dim or too bright, likening them to those used in sports stadiums. Financially, the switch to these energy-efficient lights has resulted in a dramatic decrease in energy costs, with expenditures in Ilkley dropping from £164,611 to £44,875, and in Keighley West from £272,251 to £60,091.
