A research team from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, has developed a groundbreaking indoor air purifier powered by LED lighting, capable of eliminating up to 95% of harmful gases within four hours, significantly enhancing indoor air quality. These harmful gases, known as volatile organic compounds, often emanate from materials such as wall paint, furniture, and carpets, posing health risks like irritation and nausea, particularly in newly constructed or renovated buildings. Unlike traditional methods, such as activated carbon and ultraviolet air purifiers—which have significant drawbacks—the new LED-based purifier consumes less power, avoids skin damage, and is more cost-effective. With support from the Ministry of National Development, the project is now seeking commercial partners to bring this innovative solution to market.
