A research scientist at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has received a $540,000 grant to investigate how advanced LED lighting can enhance greenhouse strawberry production amidst climate challenges. Funded by NSERC and Mitacs, Dr. Li Ma aims to tailor lighting conditions to meet the specific needs of different strawberry varieties, improving plant health and reducing energy costs by up to 40%. Collaborating with industry partners such as Sollum Technologies and Star Produce, the three-year project focuses on sustainability and efficiency in strawberry farming while training students in hands-on research.
