Cologne Cathedral Illuminated with New LED Lighting for the First Time

The Cologne Cathedral has unveiled a stunning new LED lighting system, replacing the traditional halogen lamps that were previously used for illumination. Installed over three years, the new system features over 700 LED lights mounted directly on the cathedral, allowing for enhanced energy efficiency and precision in showcasing its intricate Gothic architecture. This upgrade, costing 2.3 million euros and funded by the city, enables seasonal variations in lighting, with the capability to adjust hues from cooler summer tones to warmer winter hues. Mayor Henriette Reker emphasized the importance of highlighting this cultural landmark while minimizing light pollution to protect local wildlife.
