A recent study titled “Continuous LED Lighting Enhances Yield and Nutritional Value of Four Genotypes of Brassicaceae Microgreens” examines the effects of continuous lighting using LED grow lights on the growth and nutritional quality of microgreens, specifically arugula, broccoli, mizuna, and radish. The research found that a 24-hour photoperiod significantly boosts both yield and nutritional benefits compared to traditional fluorescent lighting. Key findings revealed that continuous LED lighting accelerates growth, enhances photosynthetic efficiency, and increases the production of bioactive compounds, despite causing mild oxidative stress in the plants. The study highlights the importance of light quality and intensity, with optimal conditions leading to improved chlorophyll ratios and antioxidant activity. As the demand for microgreens grows, optimizing light conditions could yield substantial economic and health benefits in their production.
