During a recent analyst call, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) CEO David Zaslav focused on strengthening the company’s studios business and achieving greater consistency in content production. Following the success of the Margot Robbie-led blockbuster “Barbie,” which generated $1.44 billion worldwide, Zaslav highlighted the profitability of their TV studio in scripted content while acknowledging the challenges faced by legacy cable brands due to cord-cutting. He expressed optimism about improving the gaming unit, identified as an underperforming area, and emphasized recent operational changes aimed at enhancing governance and franchise management within the motion picture studio. Zaslav also celebrated the cultural impact of upcoming projects like HBO and DC’s “The Penguin,” while CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels reiterated confidence in the studios’ long-term growth potential through integrated operations.
