University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) has received a £1.2 million boost for energy efficiency initiatives, aimed at enhancing renewable energy sources at Derriford Hospital. The funding, part of a broader £100 million allocation from Great British Energy, will support the installation of solar power systems and a battery storage solution, along with 2,200 LED lights across UHP properties. These measures are expected to significantly cut energy consumption, equating to the annual energy usage of 435 households. Sarah Brampton, the trust’s deputy chief executive and chief finance officer, emphasized the importance of these green initiatives in meeting the trust’s goal of increasing renewable energy sources by 2032 as part of their comprehensive green plan. Plymouth is among 78 trusts benefiting from this funding.
