Texans take immense pride in their state, showcasing their affection through various symbols and traditions unique to Texas. Unlike residents of states such as New Mexico or Vermont, who may not express similar pride, Texans wear ‘Don’t Mess With Texas’ t-shirts, sport Texas-themed jewelry, and enjoy local fast-food chains like Whataburger and Buc-ee’s. The love for Texas is also visible in the flying of the largest state flag in the world, a 100 by 150-foot flag managed by the Alpha Phi Omega chapter at UT Austin, displayed during Longhorn football games. While Texas may not boast the largest American flag in the U.S.—that record belongs to California—Texans still proudly display large flags in cities like Longview and Rockwall. This unwavering pride extends to Texas’s passion for high school football and an awareness of the severe weather that has shaped its history.
