In Kochi, a controversy has emerged over the delayed installation of LED streetlights, with a revised completion deadline set for December 2024. The Rs 40 crore project, managed by Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML), aims to replace 40,000 streetlights across the city. Opposition councillors have expressed frustration, citing frequent trips to CSML’s office to address non-functional lights, as many new installations have reportedly failed to work since their setup. Councillors are now turning to other agencies for assistance in maintaining functional streetlights, raising concerns about the efficiency and management of this essential public service.
