Forsyth Barr stadium in Dunedin is set to enhance its grass maintenance with the installation of new, powerful LED grow lights, which will replace the aging sodium lamps previously in use. Turf manager Michael Watson indicated that while nothing can replace natural sunlight, the new technology will significantly improve grass health and recovery, providing over double the intensity of light compared to the old fixtures. The upgrades will not only enhance efficiency and coverage but also employ infrared technology to help maintain warmer conditions during winter months. Dunedin Venues chief executive Paul Doorn emphasized that this transition addresses prior challenges and ensures optimal turf quality, catering to a busy event schedule. This improvement is distinct from a broader lighting upgrade completed at the stadium last year.
