In Kellogg, the recent installation of new lighted crosses at Greenwood Cemetery and Shoshone Memorial Gardens has brought both literal and symbolic illumination to the community. Shoshone Memorial Gardens completed its replacement earlier this year, while Greenwood’s cross was lit on December 6, 2023. These projects, initially spearheaded by the Kellogg Jaycees over 50 years ago, were revived due to deteriorating conditions of the old structures. Community efforts, including donations and volunteer work, facilitated the construction and installation of the new crosses, featuring advanced LED lighting technology. Kellogg City Superintendent Mike Fitzgerald noted the collaborative community spirit behind the projects, emphasizing their significance and expected longevity, with the new cross at Greenwood projected to last at least 30 years. Ties to the past remain strong, with funds gathered through community contributions helping to maintain the legacy of these illuminating symbols of hope in the cemeteries.
