A recent demonstration of Sony’s prototype RGB mini-LED television showcased its impressive capabilities alongside the company’s top traditional mini-LED model, the Bravia 9, and its flagship OLED, the A95L. While the prototype fell short of the OLED’s perfect black levels, it excelled in blooming control, image focus, and brightness, surpassing even the Bravia 9. The display reportedly covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum and 90% of the BT.2020 spectrum, with enhanced color accuracy in dimly lit scenes. Though not as compact as the pixels found in 4K TVs, the prototype leverages advanced technologies and proprietary systems to boost performance. Notably, it offers improved off-axis viewing, making it a compelling addition to Sony’s legacy of RGB technology, which dates back to 2004 but now features significant advancements in brightness and color reproduction.
