The sports lighting upgrade at Waratah Reserve in Eummemring has been successfully completed, enhancing local facilities for the community. City of Casey’s Mayor, Stefan Koomen, and Gabrielle Williams MP celebrated the project’s opening on April 12, alongside representatives from Doveton soccer Club, during the first game played under the new lights in five years. The upgrade includes the installation of powerful LED lights, improving visibility and safety on the pitch while reusing existing infrastructure, such as a 20-meter pole, to accommodate three additional poles equipped with two fittings each. The new lighting, with each LED fixture delivering 259,000 lumens, replaces outdated 2000-watt metal halide lights, marking a significant advancement for local junior development programs. Both Koomen and Williams emphasized the importance of quality sporting facilities in promoting active lifestyles within the community, highlighting that this joint investment between Casey and the Victorian Government will provide more opportunities for residents to engage in sports year-round.
