The Gallery at Penn College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, has successfully upgraded its lighting system with a $15,000 grant from the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative, a program of the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation aimed at promoting climate action within cultural institutions. The gallery replaced its outdated halogen track lighting, which consumed 50 to 75 watts per bulb, with a modern LED system that only uses 20 watts per bulb. This upgrade not only enhances the visibility of the artwork while protecting its sensitivity but also addresses the challenges posed by the absence of replacement halogen bulbs and increasing energy costs. Penn College’s commitment to sustainability is evident as it continues to improve energy efficiency on campus, with approximately 90% of its exterior lighting already upgraded. The Frankenthaler Climate Initiative supports energy efficiency projects across the arts sector, having allocated over $4.1 million to various organizations since its inception in 2021.
