A new study into the safety of LED headlights is being launched by the UK Government in response to escalating public concern regarding their brightness and the associated risks. Labour MP Lilian Greenwood announced that the inquiry will examine the growing issue of dazzling headlights, particularly in the context of recent accident statistics which indicate an increase in road incidents linked to headlight glare. Despite reassurances that headlamps meet international safety standards, Greenwood acknowledged the public’s worries and confirmed that independent research is underway, aiming to produce findings by summer 2025. This investigation coincides with rising campaigns advocating for a ban on intense LED bulbs as motorists report an increase in instances of being blinded by oncoming vehicles.
