The Indian government has greenlit investment proposals totaling Rs 3,516 crore from 24 companies in the latest round of applications for the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme targeting white goods, including air conditioners and light-emitting diodes. Announced by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), this round selected 18 companies, including notable names like Voltas and Lumax Industries, who have pledged Rs 2,299 crore in investments. Additionally, six existing beneficiaries have been provisionally elevated to higher investment categories, contributing another Rs 1,217 crore. Despite one withdrawal, the overall participation in the PLI scheme is expected to yield investments of Rs 10,478 crore and production worth Rs 1,72,663 crore. The PLI scheme, launched in April 2021, aims to establish a robust component ecosystem within India’s AC and LED industries, facilitating integration into global supply chains and set to run through the financial year 2028-29.
