Governor Tony Evers has declared April 21–28, 2025, as International Dark Sky Week in Wisconsin, in solidarity with global efforts to promote awareness of the significance of natural night skies. The proclamation highlights the importance of dark skies for the environment, human health, and wildlife, urging residents, businesses, and local governments to adopt responsible outdoor lighting practices to mitigate light pollution. Established in 2003, International Dark Sky Week aims to reconnect people with the night and address the adverse effects of excessive artificial lighting. DarkSky Wisconsin will lead initiatives throughout the week to educate the public on simple measures that can help preserve the state’s nocturnal beauty and safeguard its natural resources for future generations.
