Tonight, stargazers can witness the peak of the Geminid meteor shower, renowned as one of the year’s most spectacular celestial events. This annual shower, which runs from November 19 to December 24, is expected to produce over 120 meteors per hour in ideal conditions, peaking around 2 a.m. local time on December 13. Originating from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, these meteors are notably bright and colorful, often displaying hues of yellow, green, and blue due to their mineral composition. However, the approaching full Cold Moon on December 15 may significantly hinder visibility, with predictions suggesting only 15 meteors per hour may be seen. To enhance viewing experiences, experts recommend heading to dark rural locations and using reclining chairs for comfort, as the meteors will be visible throughout the night from various points in the sky.
