At its recent meeting, the Highland School Board discussed a proposed $180,000 lighting project for the Highland High School softball field, which aims to replace deteriorating wooden light poles with new LED lights mounted on metal poles. The district is applying for a $90,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to help fund the project, with the remaining costs covered by the district and the Highland Boosters group. The Board also voted to lower the minimum eligibility for early retirement for teachers and staff from 10 to 7 years of service, alongside a $10,000 incentive for retirees. Additionally, a Reconsideration Committee was established to address academic concerns raised by community members, and various job descriptions and policy updates were approved. The next School Board meeting is scheduled for October 14.
