Join Custer Institute and Observatory, Long Island’s oldest public observatory, for a captivating evening under the stars, celebrating dark skies and environmental stewardship. Established in 1927, the observatory invites visitors to learn about the impact of artificial light on wildlife and human health while discovering ways to appreciate the beauty of a star-filled night sky. The evening’s festivities begin at 6:00 PM with guided walks in the ReWild native garden and tours of the observatory. At 8:00 PM, renowned lecturer Randall DiGiuseppe will present “Spring Galaxies Far, Far Away,” followed by stargazing opportunities through powerful telescopes until midnight. Community organizations will be on hand to share their efforts for protecting the night sky. Bring a blanket or chair to enjoy this family-friendly event, which is weather permitting, with a rain date scheduled for May 3rd. Registration is recommended for the astronomy talk. Suggested donations support the observatory’s programs.
