The Center for Advanced Research and Development (CARD) is shifting its focus to laser technology for industrial drying, recognizing the energy inefficiency of traditional methods. According to project leader Yagoobi, lasers present a promising alternative that consumes less energy while integrating seamlessly into existing production lines, particularly in the food and pulp and paper industries. The research aims to enhance energy efficiency without compromising product quality, a significant concern in drying processes. Partnerships with industry leaders, including IPG Photonics, will aid in developing experimental data and optimizing the drying process. This initiative not only offers hands-on opportunities for students but is also expected to substantially reduce carbon emissions and save energy in drying operations.
